Imagine Only The Turkey Is Stuffed
Welcome to Mindful Weighs Wednesday!
Thanksgiving is right around the corner and for many of us the day includes feasting, four day weekends, football games, floats, family reunions, shopping, and more feasting. Isn’t it fascinating the amount of time and energy we put into the feasting part of such a grateful day? And at the end of it all we are usually overtired and stuffed, just like the turkey we put in the oven at the start of the day.
As you enter the upcoming week I want to offer an amazing tool you may find helpful. It’s free and you already have it - your brain. Let’s look at what you are thinking when you discuss the holiday. Perhaps some thoughts include the following -
- I’m allowed to eat and eat
- Everyone eats all day so its acceptable
- This food is about family tradition
- It’s a holiday
All perfectly acceptable thoughts right? But do they serve you in your goal to lose weight? How do you think you would feel when you think each thought? I’ll take a stab at it -
- Ecstatic
- Able
- Comfortable
- Excited
Ok - so when you have these feelings, based on those thoughts, what do you do? I’ll take another stab at it -
- Eat
- Eat
- Eat
- Eat
Interesting right? Now imagine instead of maintaining or gaining during the holiday season you actually lost? Say what? What kind of thoughts would you need in that situation? What thoughts would make you feel confident in knowing you have control? What thoughts would you need in order to go into the week with a solid plan to completely enjoy the day without over eating? Let’s face it - we say things like - it is all so good - but really, how good is it when your stomach hurts and your farting all night?
So today I encourage you to see what comes up with your thoughts about Thanksgiving. You get to choose, so choose those that serve you. Plan ahead and know that you are in control - honor your plan, have your own back, and continue to find Mindful Weighs to feel amazing during the holidays!
