Lose Weight During The Holiday Season

How is December just around the corner already? Another year almost in the books, and the excitement of a New Year to come. The holiday parties, shopping, and possibly stress, in full swing - how will you deal with it all? This time of year can be a challenge for many who want to lose weight, but it truly doesn’t have to be. How do you want to feel during the holidays? What are your goals to get you through?
The key is to not go unconscious during these times. The challenge comes from the thoughts you are having going into the season. The challenge comes from learning to tell a different story about how you enjoy this time of year. Do you find yourself saying things like - “I always gain weight this time of year”, or “It’s a party so I had to eat what they served”, or “I was stressed and wanted that cookie”? If you said yes to any, and if you want different results, I encourage you to consider a new way of thinking this year.
We will use the Circumstance as - the holiday season. Let’s look at the first thought as an example.
Thought - “I always gain weight this time of year” —
When you think that thought how do you feel?
Feeling - I might guess defeated
What actions do you take around eating when you feel defeated?
Actions - Possibly over eat? Possibly make bad choices?
And what are your results when you over eat?
Result - You gain weight.
Your result always proves your thoughts. Now let’s take a look at how you could change that this year.
We will keep the same Circumstance - the holiday season. Now consider a thought more along the lines -
Thought - I am learning to make better choices this season
Feeling - Possibly hopeful? Inspired?
Action - Be more aware and choose foods with thought
Result - You make better choices
Decide on purpose this holiday season what you want your results to be. Don’t wait until the New Year. Think of your future self who is right where you want to be, and have her give you some advice. What would she tell you to stop doing? What would she tell you to start doing today? Make her proud - you totally go this!
