Time Matters
Hopefully you remembered to “Fall Back”! The activity of changing back the clocks started me thinking about how we look at time, and how we choose to spend our time. When we are young we are typically very future focused which brings fun and exciting times. We look forward to graduating high school, getting into the college of our choice, finding our dream job, getting married, having kids… and then what? Many of us hit a point in life where we become past focused. We look back to where we’ve been, think about what we missed out on, and stop thinking about there we are going. Time flies and you are the pilot - how do you want to spend it?
Did you ever notice how an hour of time in traffic seems so different than an hour enjoying dinner with family and friends? How do you approach the time you have? Do you spend it? Waste it? Lose it? Imagine if you approached time purposely deciding what you want to create. Here is a question to consider - what outcomes to do you want in five years? Will you achieve them if you keep living your life you as you do today?
One of the first steps in planning your time is to decide on purpose the life you want to create. Take a moment to look back at yesterday - how did you use up your time? You had 24 hours - how did you spend them - include eating, working, excercise, family time - every minute. How many of these items align with what you want to create for your life?
What costs you your time? Some ways we cost ourselves time include worrying, people pleasing, confusion, regretting and overwhelming. Worrying pretends to be important, but produces nothing of value. Imagine having the time and energy you use hanging out in regret and indecision to take action on making your dreams come true.
Take the time to consider what you value in your life. Plan your days accordingly. Imagine that tomorrow is your last day. Examine what you would create with the most valuable 24 hours. Action creates result. I encourage you to go out and blow your own mind!
