Embrace the Junk Food

Yes, I did say embrace the junk food! It’s the holiday season and what better time to build the skills you need in order to lose weight. You have decided losing weight is one of your top priorities, and you have temptation after temptation in front of you over the next couple of weeks - now what?
Most weight loss programs suggest you control the external environment. The diet mentality will often suggest you get rid of all the junk food, avoid the parties, don’t even take the bread basket, and at all costs avoid anything that may make you feel anxious or uncomfortable. How has that worked out for you so far?
In this program we talk about the importance of managing the mind. There are always going to be parties and events you can not control. We actually encourage you to embrace the negative, and develop the skills to take on an urge, allow, and process the feelings that come up. If you avoid these situations because you don’t feel you have enough control you are actually proving your negative belief system to be true. Instead, embrace the urge, which is simply a thought. The thought is initially part of an unconscious loop, and brining awareness to it is key in losing weight. Let me give you an example, and share a tool to help you become more conscious as you lose weight over the holidays.
I recently had an urge for something along the lines of macaroni and cheese, or pizza and fries - or all of the above. I noticed that tricky brain of mine thinking the thought - “It is cold and gray out - I want something warm and comfy”. It was in fact cold and gray that day, but eating that was not on plan that day, and did not align with the priorities I am working on. Being able to stay present with emotions and recognize urges takes practice. Becoming aware is key in overcoming thought errors that hold you back as you lose your weight.
The tool you can use to start becoming more aware of your tricky brain is called 100 Allowed Urges. Each time you have an urge write down a note for what it felt like, what you were thinking, or how you managed it. This allows you access to process your emotions instead of eating them. It will give you all the freedom you need as you work towards your weight loss goal. When you do this work you will see that the strength is created from within. This my friends will give you permanent results.
Don’t forget - we have an amazing day planned on 1/6/18 in Saratoga, NY - with an emphasis in weight loss. Sign up now!
