Do Wine & Cookies Bring You Joy?



How do you spend your Sunday Fun-Day?  What is it that brings you joy on any given day?  When I ask what brings you joy I mean truly, long term, brings you joy.  There is a difference - of course in the moment it seems like the extra glass of wine or extra cookie is brining you joy, but pay attention - is it what you feel like at the time - or is it what you truly want as you work to accomplish your goals and make your dreams come true?

Let’s face it - the concentrated sugar and alcohol will give you a dopamine hit, which may seem like joy in the moment.  If this has been your struggle for years your brain will go back to those desires - your brain’s job is to seek out pleasure,  look to avoid pain, and do it all as efficiently as possible.  From that standpoint, it makes sense to keep thinking the same thoughts, but if you continue to believe food and wine is what brings your joy, you will continue to struggle.  So in order to do something different, in order to get to your goal weight or to cut back on drinking, I want you to imagine how amazing your life would be if you took all the energy you use on food and wine and apply it to something even more magical.  What life will you create when you start finding joy in other sources?

I encourage you to start living from a place of what you truly want, vs what you feel like.  It will be uncomfortable at first - and that ok - you can totally handle discomfort.  Your brain will freak out - and that’s OK too - it is to be expected because you are introducing new thoughts.  When you start living the life you truly want, you will find evidence to support your healthy living, and believe new things are possible on your path to goal achievement.  It may be challenging at first - if everything came easy to us life would be boring.  When you can acknowledge you are doing the hard work, and you are meeting your own needs to accomplish your dreams, your self confidence will grow.  As your confidence grows you will consistently honor the commitments you make to yourself and in the process create the life you always dreamed of!
