How Life Coaching, Wine & Food Relate
People often ask me what Life Coaching, Wine, and Food have in common and what am I exactly doing. So today I wanted to share a little insight on how these all relate, and how you may be helped by understanding a little more.
Under my training from The Life Coach School, with Brooke Castillo, the focus is on the cause of any problem, our thoughts, and uses an amazing tool called The Model. The Model is a way for you to become more conscious of your thinking. The benefit is once you are aware of your thoughts you are better able to decide, on purpose, if they serve you and if you want to continue thinking that way. Often times we go through life not even recognizing our thoughts are optional. So first you want to notice what you are thinking. Your thinking then triggers a feeling, and a feeling will drive your action to get you a result. Once you really understand your thinking is the cause of your current result, you can decide to have an intentional thought to create a new result. I want to point out - this is not about going from miserable thoughts to rainbows and butterflies. A simple shift in thinking can often provide amazing results. So what does this have to do with eating and drinking?
Let’s say you have a thought “I can’t stop eating those cookies”, or “I can't stop drinking that wine”. Here is a Model in practice —
Circumstance is - Wine
Thought is - I can’t stop drinking this wine
Feeling is - out of control
Action is - continue to drink
Result is - You don't stop drinking the wine (your result always proves your thought true)
Now that you have become aware of this, maybe you want to start drinking less, so you need to decide what thought will trigger a feeling to move your action to that result. So the intentional model - the thought you decide on purpose to think - may look like this -
Circumstance - Wine
Thought - I am learning tools to plan my drinking and be in control
Feeling - determined
Action - do the work to learn the importance of planned drinking
Result - you plan, and you are in control
Do you notice how it’s not a jump to - I’ll never drink again? It is so important to find a thought that you believe, and one that will generate a feeling that drives the appropriate actions for the results you want in life. Amazing concept - if you can change your thoughts on drinking and change your results in that arena - what more could you do?
