Plan To Eat AND Drink This Week!
It’s Sunday! Let’s get ready for the upcoming week and plan to eat and drink and be ok with it all. But, you may say - I have resolutions to eat better and drink less. I know my friends, and thats why I’m writing this to help you stay on track and understand the importance of planning ahead of time.
So often we may say - I’ll start Monday. I want to encourage you to start planning your Monday today. Often times what derails our success at losing weight and/or drinking less is giving into an urge. Let’s say its 5:00 and you had a long day - you desire a drink, which leads to the next, and the next and after you know it you don’t even care what you eat. Instead, I suggest you plan all of it. Use the planning part of your brain, the boss of you, and decide ahead of time what you want to eat and drink - do it at least 24 hours in advance, and learn how to be ok if an additional urge arises. Let me give you an idea of what an urge looks like.
Have you ever seen a toddler in the candy aisle of the grocery store having a complete meltdown? I mean - crazy, NOW NOW NOW - this child wants the candy bar (I’m getting anxious just thinking about it). What does mom have the option to do?
She can give in to the kid and get the candy bar, everything quiets down - and the kid learns the behavior is rewarded.
She can fight him on it - back and forth they go no, yes, no yes - that’s always pleasant.
She can just allow the kid to his thing, eventually he will get she is in charge and not giving in and they move on. The kid also learns this behavior is not rewarded.
It’s the same as when you want that drink, or the cookie. Resisting is not pleasant, giving in just keeps the behavior going, but if you sit with it your brain will understand you have decided in advance, and you are keeping your word. So, take some time today to write down what you plan to eat and drink tomorrow. Be very specific, and then stick to it. You may say you are having one glass of wine as you cook dinner. Now, after the one you may have an urge for the second, but don’t give into that toddler tantrum - you are in charge, you are deciding to do this for you, and you need to have your own back. This tool will help you re program your brain and keep you on track to accomplish your goals - try it daily - what do you have to lose? Perhaps some weight and a couple mornings of negative self talk after that extra glass of wine? Sounds like a good deal to me.
