Succeed At Drinking Less This Year
Welcome back to Thinking about Drinking Thursday, where we discuss tools to help you drink less. If you are a highly functioning gal who has decided to cut back, or quit drinking - this is for you. If you have been saying you want to drink less, but haven't been successful I want to help by sharing some tools with you.
The New Year brings about new resolutions and perhaps you have decided to drink less this year. In order to be successful you will first want to become more conscious of what is going on in your brain. This year will be different if you start doing the work on managing your brain as you work to accomplish your goal.
We have created everything in our lives with our thoughts. Now is the time to start looking at your current thoughts/beliefs and begin deciding if they are what will create the future you desire. Take some time to begin looking at what you currently believe about your ability to drink less. Look at what you believe about yourself and what you have learned from your parents. Often times people will think back to past events and believe the event has shaped them, when in fact it is the thoughts about the event that gives meaning to the circumstance. If you find yourself blaming a specific past event for your unhappiness, which leads you to drinking more, recognize this is optional. Byron Katie says you can argue with reality, you will lose, but only 100% of the time. So decide what you want to believe now, about how you tell that story, and how you will show up for yourself.
Often times people also have illogical beliefs based on a lifetime of programming such thoughts. For example - if you believe you will never be able to cut back on drinking because you never have in the past it will likely be difficult. Imagine you didn’t have this belief - imagine what you could do. You can choose to believe you will accomplish your goal, no matter what, and likely find much more success in the adventure.
This week take the time to really become the observer of your thoughts. Imagine if you believed you were already 100% worthy and didn’t have to buffer or escape with wine? Envision the person you want to become and go get it. Make 2018 the best year ever!
