Think About Your Comittment
Welcome to the first installment of Mindful Weighs Wednesday for 2018! Hopefully everyone had an amazing New Year. Some of you may have made some resolutions and I want to encourage you to do the work to truly make this year your year to accomplish what may seem impossible today!
This year make your commitment to weight loss epic! If I told you I would give you 100 million dollars if you got to your goal weight it would be as good as done. Take that mindset and dial in on what your compelling reason will be. Why do you want to lose the weight? Take the time to really think about this. The reason needs to be compelling enough to keep you from ever over eating. It has to be the thought you go to when your brain wants to tell you you “deserve” the cookies, or - it’s normal to over eat, or everyone else is doing it. It has to be a reason you believe will be more beneficial than over eating, and in the end give you freedom from being overweight ever again.
After you decide on purpose what compelling reason is take the time to really think about being willing to live an amazing life without the buffering and escape that food provides. Imagine living a life without all the chatter around food - what things could you possible accomplish if you focused all that energy elsewhere?
Next, are you willing for embrace the discomfort? This is going to be a change from what your brain is normally used to thinking and it will be uncomfortable at times. Are you willing to pay the currency of discomfort in order to get to the other side and finally get to the weight you dream of? This is going to be very important in the process of deciding your level of commitment - try on this thought - this is going to be uncomfortable, and that’s OK. Along the same lines you need to decide if you are willing to continue even when results may not be as fast as you want. Think about it - you have gotten to this point over many years - it may not be immediate results and you have to be willing to continue doing the work to accomplish your goal.
Lastly, take the time to imagine you can and will fulfill all this in commitment to yourself. What do you envision yourself looking like? How do you feel? Start thinking in ways that you are already there - it is as good as done - how would you show up? When you believe you can do it, and start thinking along the lines it is already accomplished, you begin showing up and making decisions differently. For example - if you are at your goal weight do you really see yourself reaching for the cookies or cake or extra helping of potatoes? Or, if you are at your goal weight do you see yourself sticking to your protocol, having your own back, and honoring your commitment to yourself? Begin thinking of all the benefits you will enjoy once you get to your goal weight - you will totally rock it!
