How to Combat Busy

I was recently accepted into a training and development program that seems super exciting but this morning I woke up feeling a little anxious thinking about accomplishing all the things I have going on right now.  Everyone is so busy these days, but my guess is everyone has a different idea of what busy really is.  Busy pretends to be necessary, but take a moment and think about how you feel when you tell people (and yourself) how busy you are.

My heart started racing a little when I thought about being able to find times to meet with my study partner.  I started to think I will never be able to do this, I already have a number of things going on.  Then I took a moment to real in the crazy.  I took the time to do some cleaning up of the brain, and I know we will find time to do the work.  I will have a feeling of determination throughout the program, knowing I will do my best no matter what.  These thoughts feel very different than the ones I woke up with, and I would like to share some tools with you as you work to accomplish great things in your life.

First , notice that this is all very normal.  You have thoughts that are running subconsciously because they are efficient and repetitive.  Your brain wants to protect you from any sense of negative or uncomfortable.  Second, recognize uncomfortable is the currency you pay to reaching your dreams.  If it was  easy it would already be done.  Next, take the time to sit down and organize your thoughts - just like you would your closet.  Step out of the mess in your brain, take everything out on a piece of paper and only keep the thoughts that move you in the direction of production.  When you are in your brain, you are at the effect of your thoughts, and it is very difficult to recognize that everything going on in there is a choice.  It really is.

"Productive" feels different than busy, and in order to get there you need to bring new thoughts into practice.  Just like closets get dusty and messed up, so too can your brain.  Learning the skill of thought organization will be one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.  Take the time to recognize how the thoughts make you feel, and decide on purpose which ones will serve you best as you create the life you dream of.

Each week I offer 2 free mini sessions, first come first serve, to women who have had weight loss surgery and find themselves still struggling with food, or have developed a new struggle with overdrinking.  If you want to feel more in control and peaceful  Sign up here to discuss how my program may help you.  Once you sign up you will receive a call in number and appointment reminder.  Some may not be a fit, and that is fine - I consider it a privilege to offer free help in advance.
