Is Your Love Found in The Box of Chocolates?

Happy Valentine’s Day friends!  A day of romance, a day of desire.  A day of flowers, cards, fancy dinners and chocolate.  It is also Mindful Weighs Wednesday, where we discuss tools to help you lose weight, and because I love you all I’m going to have to keep it honest here.

How cute is the box of chocolates with the puppy on it?  Chocolate and puppies = love right?  Not so fast.  Watch yourself today when you reach for the caramel nut section.  Pay attention to thinking things like - “the chocolates are a present for the love we share”, or “everyone celebrates with a nice dinner”, “food is love”, “eating sweets is part of the tradition”, “it’s fine to eat them today”, or “I should be able to eat what I want - it’s a holiday”.  These are all thought errors for the person trying to lose weight.

A thought error is a thought that creates an unwanted desire and unwanted actions.  Our desire comes from the dopamine hits we get once we eat, as well as our cultural conditioning and beliefs around what is normal eating and how much enjoyment we should be entitled to get from food.  If you are trying to lose weight, this thinking will ultimately make you feel deserving, and you have a greater potential to over eat.

So in line with keeping it honest - the box of chocolates is just that - a box of chocolates.  Your love for each other is not dependent on you eating the sweets.  Your love for each other is not dependent on going off plan for a multi-course, overpriced fancy dinner.  You can have salad, love and total enjoyment with each other - I promise.  Think about how you will love your body in those fancy new jeans, or at the beach feeling comfortable in your swimsuit, think about the confidence and self-esteem you will feel once you accomplish your goals.  Think of how amazing your life can be when you take those skills and apply them to other areas.  Take the time today to love the body you are in, and treat it well.  Think of how proud and loving your future self will be!

Each week I offer 2 free mini sessions, first come first serve, to women who have had weight loss surgery and find themselves still struggling with food, or have developed a new struggle with over drinking.  I can help you cut back on drinking, feel more peaceful, and in control.  Sign up here to apply, no obligation, for a 20 minute session.
