What Can You Learn From This Weekend?
OK, well I was routing for the Patriots yesterday and this morning we know how that all finished up. Being married to a football coach I’m pretty confident on what one of the next steps will be. The team will be looking at the film, learning from it, and planning for the next season. Learning and moving on is an important skill in many aspects of our lives. It is an important skill to incorporate as you work to lose weight, and drink less.
If you found yourself going off plan this weekend I encourage you to take the time to write down what went on, learn from it, and move on. Take tedious and deliberate time to study what went on in your brain. You want to learn what happened in your pre frontal (planning) brain vs the low (Impulsive) brain. You didn’t just “fall off the wagon” - there is no wagon friends. Your low brain would love for you to think that and just blow this off, but if you are truly trying to lose weight or drink less you need to learn as you go so you don’t continue to live with your current results.
Dissect every little thing that went on. Look at the triggers of the situation, look at what the desire was, look at why you fought against the urge, and why you had a hard time allowing it. Your low brain is completely unconscious - which is the point of efficiency. Now you are brining your conscious brain into the process, and the more you can learn from the weekend the more you will unlearn the over desire and decide on purpose how to live your life. This my friends is when you really start feeling in control of your eating and drinking.
Do this exercise from a curious and compassionate space. Do not beat yourself up about any of it - that serves no purpose. Negative self talk never made anyone thinner or drink less. You have the ability to manage your mind. You can decide on purpose you are a bad ass taking this life in a direction you dream of. “Next season” starts today - get after it!
