This Is A Game Changer
Yesterday I had the privilege of seeing Molly Fletcher (www.mollyfletcher.com) present at a meeting. For anyone who may not know this powerhouse, my agenda described her as - a trailblazer in every sense of the word. She has a rare talent of business wisdom, relationship brilliance and unwavering optimism. As a CEO she shares her unconventional and unique techniques that made her on of the first female agents in the high stakes, big ego world of professional sports and now successful entrepreneur. She was hailed as the “female Gerry Maguire” by CNN. For me, it was her energy, enthusiasm and message of taking the time to deliberately place your energy on what matters most, remain present in every moment, and be willing to be vulnerable that truly resonated.
I wanted to share with you a few of the take-aways I found helpful. Think of the top 5 most important things in your life. One by one take them away - what is your top remaining one? Take some time to think about how often you really place your energy there. We all running around with “stuff” we need to do, and often allow ourselves to be drained by this, and others. We manage our time, but really we would benefit more from managing our energy. Think about who, and what, truly deserves your energy, distribute accordingly, and see how your life changes.
Molly also discussed the importance of being willing to be vulnerable. Vulnerability is sometimes confused as weakness, but that is not the case at all my friends. Brene Brown discusses this topic in depth in her book Daring Greatly. In chapter 2 she suggests we can begin dismissing vulnerability as weakness when we realize we’ve “confused feeling with failing”. Vulnerability is actually an amazing measure of courage, it is being “all in”. It may not be comfortable, but it is necessary to take your life to the next level.
As professional women we think we need to have everything perfect and aligned before you ask for the next challenge, which often holds us back. Have the courage to be vulnerable, put your hand up and ask for the promotion, let them see you shine. The worst that will happen is they say not yet. Now what you make that mean is the next important step. You can learn from it and continue forward with resilience, or you can go back and hide in shame. I’m sure there has been a contract or two that didn’t go just as Molly planned, but she didn’t let that stop her. In order to make anything amazing in life happen you must be willing to be vulnerable. The game changers truly are when you use your energy in deliberate ways, and increase your willingness to be vulnerable. This level of living on purpose will give you the confidence you need to make your dreams come true!
