Lose Dessert Spoon, Add Wine Glass

Welcome back to Thinking about Drinking Thursday, where we discuss tools to help you drink less.  If you are a highly functioning gal who has decided to just cut back on your drinking - this is for you.

Today I want to share with you a little about why I want to help professional women feel more in control of their drinking.  A few months ago I was working with a gal who was telling me how she had weight loss surgery, and she was at a loss because nobody told her she would turn to alcohol the way she did after the procedure.  It made perfect sense to me and here’s why.

When we don’t want to face an uncomfortable emotion in life we can turn to food to make us feel better.  It totally does the job when we get a dopamine hit from flour or sugar, and as we reward the brain with this false pleasure the brain begins to think it is necessary for survival.  Now think about his, you take away the option to eat as much - how do you feel better?  Often times we can turn to another false pleasure - alcohol for example, to do the trick.

After weight loss surgery people also tell me they are dealing with a new identity of sorts.  Relationships may change, sense of self may change.  If these are uncomfortable situations, alcohol can help make dealing with it seem easier.  The women I work with do not consider themselves alcoholics.  These women just want to drink less in order to live more.

If you want to learn how you can feel more in control of your drinking I would love to chat with you.  Sign up for a free mini session to learn more.  The mini session is simply a way to see if my tools can help you live the life you dream of, on purpose.  When you do the work, you will wake up loving every amazing morning - that will be something to “cheers” about.
