This is Why The Scale Never Moves
How freaked out would you be if you stepped out of the shower to find your scale sitting on top of your toilet? I mean, how did it get there - just jump off the floor on it’s own? I know, this sounds so silly, but how many times have you felt disappointed because “the scale didn’t move”. Scales don’t move my friend. If they did, you might worry. A scale just sits there, neutral, giving you some facts. The thoughts we have about those numbers are what changes, and that determines our feelings of disappointment. This is fantastic news - because you get to decide what you want to think about the numbers.
Seriously think about how much power you give the scale. I was recently in an Advanced Weight Loss training class and my teacher, Brooke Castillo, was asking how many of us have weighed ourselves, didn't like the number, so we go to the bathroom, blow dry our hair, and tried again. I thought I was the only one that did that! (Honestly, I sometimes have thought blowing my nose might help - like that will really do the trick.). So - if she has done it, and I have done it, I imagine you too may have at one point.
REALLY??
We act all crazy because of what a piece of metal reports?
There is good news.
We can stop that. Here is a solution.
You can always choose a power thought before you get on the scale. Have it in your brain before you step on the scale and keep it there - no matter what the scale says - up or down. Some ideas that may work -
I will get even better tomorrow
I am learning how to become the person I want to be
I am committed no matter what
Here is the thing. You have to try the new thought on to see if it is believable to you. Now, think about when you go clothes shopping - you need to take off one outfit in order to try another on. So you are going to have to be willing to drop the negative self talk in order to try on the new thought.
Let me ask you - how has the negative self talk worked for you so far? My guess is that is hasn't been a good fit, so please go ahead and strip it. The new thought may not feel super comfortable at first, but as you practice it will begin to feel much better.
Remember - the scale’s only job is to show you a number - it doesn’t tell you how amazing, kind, smart, funny or loving you are. That’s your job. Now get to work.
