This Will Help Reduce The Guilt From Over Eating
Do you ever think about how much you think about food? Really - think of how often you think about - the next meal, the office cake you shouldn’t have, and then how you can't believe that you ended up having the cake and the pizza they had for the celebration.
Imagine what you could create in your life if you used all that brain energy on something else. Imagine not having that mean girl in your head telling you how terrible you are at losing weight and you will never be able to do it, because you have never done it before. This time can be different, and today I want to share the number one tip to keep you on track, and prove that mean girl wrong.
Planning is key. I prefer to plan my entire week out, but I wasn’t always there. If you are just getting started, the other option is to plan at least 24 hours in advance. Planning offers a couple of benefits. First, you plan in advance with your higher brain and will make decisions based on what food will fuel you. You do not just decide in the moment what you “feel like” eating. It doesn’t matter what you feel like in the moment - you have made a plan and you stick to it, no matter what. Honor the commitment you made to yourself and you will be amazed at how you start believing in yourself.
Next, planning allows you freedom from the crazy brain. You decide, and you are done. No negotiations to follow. No negative chatter along the way. Caution - there will be times when an unexpected treat comes by. Don’t act on the initial impulse - it is not on your plan. Instead, notice the desire, reassure yourself you will be ok, stay committed to knowing it is not on todays plan, so you will not have. If you want to put it on the plan for another day you have that option, but by that time you will have already planned it out and considered all the consequences. Again, sticking to your decision will build your confidence within. You will begin to see that you really can do things you used to think were not possible.
Lastly, planning frees up your mental energy but it also frees up your time. If you can just toss together 5 salads for the work week on Sunday you are done. You don’t have to take the time to think about what you should have, make multiple stops at the store, and wait in line for lunch. Sometimes my clients tell me they don’t have time to plan. I challenge you on that if you are thinking the same - I bet you will shock yourself with the extra time you gain.
Try it out - and if you are not sure what to do with that extra time feel free to reach out and let me know how it is going! I would love to chat with you about more ways to help you feel more in control.
