This Is How To Make a Radical Change in Your Drinking
Recently my coach was talking about the "Compound Effect". It's actually a book by Darren Hardy in which he discusses the importance of small steps. According to him the formula is small smart choices + consistency + time = RADICAL DIFFERENCE. Everything in your life is a choice. Every choice matters. What you decide will either add up over time to a positive effect, or a negative one.
Think about an example you may have. For me I look back at when I first began meditating. I pretty much hated it. I do not like to "relax", I didn't want to hear all the voices in my head, I never thought I would "do it right". But I started super small. I literally set a timer on my phone for one minute. I think about ever ten seconds I would peak to see if it was almost done. But then I started to get better at it, and moved the timer to 2 minutes, with less peaking. After some time doing that I invested in the HeadSpace app - and now I am up to 15 minutes! Although I don't expect I will ever be totally zen, I enjoy it so much more.
Now - for my ladies who are looking to drink less. In the free workbook I share, there is a tool to begin planning drinking. It is a simple step to do 24 hours in advance. Simply write down what you plan to drink. It may seem insignificant to start, but it makes all the difference. Doing this little activity, consistently, over time, will help you unlearn your over desire for wine and let me tell you - the difference will not only be in you drinking less - but what you do with your life after learning these skills. It's the difference between cold turkey, white knuckling, quitting vs small consistent choices for radical change.
Remember - it's the little quits that add up to the big quit. You have the control to weigh all choices in your life - decide to be mindful as you weigh your options. Every small step will get you that much closer to your goal. When you continue to take them, you will reap the rewards of the Compound Effect, and truly create the life you imagine.
